It is the beginning of another year  and hopefully  you are starting off with a bang. This is the time to grow fresh new writing ideas. A time to cultivate inspiration   and motivation  for your craft. But, what if this is not your story? Perhaps your  new year is not starting off with much writing success. Maybe you are fizzing out before you really get started. Or maybe you are dealing with writers block  and losing your mojo.

Don’t despair. Believe me I have been there. Not every year started off with excitement and laser-focus determination. I am currently dealing with some winter blues and decreased enthusiasm. Plus, the below 30 degree cold weather   I am experiencing is not helping. So, I am writing this post partly  for selfish reasons. I need to get out of mental hibernation. I know I am not alone  and want you dear reader to  benefit as well. I know this list of blogging ideas  will help the both of us.

Now, one more thing before we get started. I want to share my sources for this list. I would love to take all the credit, after all I have been a writer and blogger for several years. But that would not be true. Some came from a fellow blogger I follow on WordPress. And some came from a book I read title, “Platform: Get Noticed in a Noisy World” by Michael Hyatt.

13 Blogging Ideas

1. Tell a personal story. People love a story especially a personal one. It pulls the reader in  because  people can relate and identify.

2. Describe a historical event. Put a new twist on some history. Or define it  from your perspective. I have done this many times by taking  a piece of history  and including a disabled viewpoint to it.

3. Review a book, movie or product. Now, this one I do often. I like sharing my thoughts about something I read, watched or use. To be fair I like to share the positives and negatives, letting the reader  decide for themselves.

4. Comment on a powerful quote. People like quotes from famous and successful people. Do a simple Google search and find quotes  for almost anything. Then write a post on the one that speaks to you. Another idea is to list your favorites and share why.

5. Let a great photo inspire you. Well, this one doesn’t actually work  for me but I  kept it on this list for my sighted readers. Instead of a photo what about a social media post, poem, short story  or a song?

6. Comment on something in the news. I did this the other week when I wrote a post about a disabled man  who  was denied access  at a movie theatre. Sharing news stories can spark blog ideas and conversation with your subscribers.

7. Report on an interesting chat you had or overheard. Are you a good Conversationalist? Easily eavesdrop on other conversations? Use these talents  to quickly kraft a blog post. Use the conversation in your lead paragraph  and expand from there.

8. Provide  steps on how to do something. How-to post are my jam. I find them easy to write  and they rank well with internet analytics. Plus people love learning how to do something with quick and easy steps.

9. Provide a list of resources. This kind of post is helpful and meaningful to your readers. Providing good useful resources  shows your desire to be supportive and considerate.

10. Answer a question from one of your blog subscribers. I like listening to podcasts when the host  uses an episode  to read from their mail bag. You get to hear  from curious subscribers and how the host will answer. I also feel a sense of connection because the questions are interesting  or ones I have too. You can have similar results in a blog post.

11. Break down a complicated  task and make it simple. Ever read some convoluted instructions? Wished there was an easier way to do something? Or maybe you  finished a difficult task and want to share  your cleverness with the world? Write a blog post about it and see your readers give a sigh of relief and smile.

12. Explain the thoughts behind a decision. Sometimes It is not clear why a particular decision was made. A post on the topic  could be an opportunity  for you to share details and give perspective.

13. Write a guide for something popular. As I shared before, people are drawn to how-to articles and post. Writing a guide  giving the basics along with your experience will be a winner.

Keep This List Handy

This list is not exhaustive. There are always more ideas to blog about. However, some of these are pretty cool and  resin ate with readers and subscribers. Plus  they can alleviate writers block. So, when your natural creativity  is waning or absent  pull out this list. Read it throughout  the year  for motivation and inspiration. Happy writing!
