My Life Unseen Blog

Why I Write This Blog

Many people are naturally curious and sometimes totally unaware of the life of a person with a disability. The average person never comes in direct contact with a disabled person. As a person with vision loss I experience  this phenomena regularly.

This is why I created this blog. I want to educate, empower and enlighten readers with news, stories and info about the blind and visually impaired community. Since I am  a person with a visual disability  I figure I am a pretty good expert. My goal is  for you to understand better as I  use my life as a focal point.

Also, I wanted a space to express myself. I have carved out my own room in the blogging world. I want this platform to be a place to talk about vision loss as well as other topics that are close to my heart.

A Hotel Experience With Braille That Went Above and Beyond

January is Braille Literacy Month and  I ‘m going to share a positive experience I had at a hotel many years  ago. It was so wonderful I still remember it to this very day. It showed me  there are thoughtful people  still left in the world. It also showed me establishments  want to be inclusive…

Make Media Literacy Your 2024 New Years Resolution

It is a brand new year  and with that comes new years resolutions. I have to admit I am not big on  resolutions  because  of their poor success rate. You know how it goes. You  make a decision to lose weight, exercise more, or change some other personal bat habit. Then by February  all of…

What Can Rudolph  the Red-Nosed Reindeer Teach Us About Diversity and Inclusion

I recently watched the 1964 Christmas animated special Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer in audio description. I have enjoyed this holiday classic since I was a kid and never get tired of watching it year after year. For those who are unfamiliar with this story, Rudolph is one of Santa’s many reindeers who is shunned and…

Too Close for Comfort: How to Respect a Blind Person’s Personal Space

National Personal Space Day Today, Nov 30 is National Personal Space Day  which promotes kindness toward sensitivities and supports healing and self-protection by recognizing everyone’s right to decide when and how to be touched. This got me to thinking  about an incident where a well-meaning sighted person didn’t respect my space. It happened during my…

Celebrate the Holidays with 5  Accessible Ways to Send Season Greetings

Greeting cards have been a regular part of my life since childhood. I remember  as a kid coming from the mailbox  sifting through the numerous  envelopes  containing beautiful and colorful  Christmas cards mostly from family members. I can recall the excitement  and curiosity I felt when opening the card  to see  what type of decoration…
